Tura, July 12: The 134th Durand Cup Trophy arrived in Tura on Saturday as part of a grand showcase and roadshow organized by the Indian Armed Forces, with strong support from the Government of Meghalaya.

The trophy roadshow was flagged off from the P. A. Sangma Stadium in Dakopgre, winding its way through key locations in Tura, including Nazing Bazar, Araimile, Tetengkol, Hawakhana, the DC Office and culminating at the Super Market Complex.
Addressing the gathering at the flag-off ceremony, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Agarwal expressed pride in Meghalaya’s continued association with the Durand Cup. He highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting sports by providing proper infrastructure and national-level exposure to youth.
“Hosting events like the Durand Cup not only builds enthusiasm but also aligns with our long-term vision of developing sports infrastructure across towns like Tura and Shillong, especially in preparation for the 2027 National Games,” Agarwal said.
He also spoke about state initiatives aimed at nurturing sporting talent through the development of academies, hostels, and educational support systems across all districts. “Our goal is to promote sports not just in urban hubs but across the entire state,” he added, expressing optimism about Meghalaya’s sporting future.
Also present at the event were Saljagring M. Marak, District Sports Officer of West Garo Hills, Sachin R. Marak, a celebrated footballer from Tura, and Subedar Rohit Das of the Indian Armed Forces, who joined in flagging off the trophy roadshow.
