Shillong, Sept 20: The ongoing national highway construction in the Nongstoiñ-Rambrai region in West Khasi Hills (WKH) district has raised alarm as numerous houses have reported significant damage due to dynamite blasting.
The project is being overseen by NHIDCL.
Houses in close proximity to the construction site, particularly in Steplanglur Village at Rambrai, have witnessed cracks in their walls and damages to roofs, a result of debris propelled into residential areas from the explosive blasts.
The Juriaw Presbyterian Lower Primary School in Stephanlur Village is among the most severely affected, with noticeable holes in both its walls and roof resulting from the dynamite blasts.
Despite the concerns raised by affected families, the NHIDCL management has shown reluctance to address their grievances, redirecting them to approach the district administration instead.
In response to this alarming situation, the Dorbar Shnong has urged the District Administration to intervene promptly, given that the company continues to carry out dynamite blasting operations day and night, which is causing distress among the locals.
The Dorbar has asserted that if the District Administration doesn’t intervene immediately, the company’s stubborn attitude may lead to serious consequences, and the Dorbar Shnong will not take any responsibility if any untoward incident happens.
