Shillong, May 24: Soil & Water Conservation Minister Hamletson Dohling on Tuesday stressed that farmers are the spine of the society while speaking at the “Farmer’s Awareness, Capacity Building & Training Programme” organised by Project Implementation Committee Umtongsyiem-Umjilieng & Mylliem RIDFXXVI in collaboration with the office of the Divisional Soil & Water Conservation Officer, Shillong (Territorial) Division, East Khasi Hills District at Madan Ing Syiem, Mylliem.
MLA Dohling, in his brief address, lauded the Project Implementation Committee for conducting such programmes which will enhance the productivity of the farmers. Stating that farmers are the spine of the society, he urged the farmers to implement all the knowledge received to their best capabilities.
He also informed that there are numerous schemes available for farmers in the state. He urged them to visit various governmental offices which deal directly with the welfare of farmers in order to avail such schemes.
The minister also lauded the efforts put in by various stakeholders in making the programme a success. The resource persons for the programme included Harvester Dohling, Assistant Director of Agriculture (Information), office of District Training Office and Wanshan K Kharkongor, Divisional Officer, Soil & Water Conservation, Shillong (Territorial) Division.
During the day, the minister also distributed 250 Sprayer Pumps, two Power Tillers and Rs 4000 each for improvement of agricultural land to 464 beneficiaries from 15 villages under Mylliem Them Area.
