Shillong, June 13: Just ten days after the inauguration of its newly established Delivery Point, the Laitnongkseh Sub-Centre has achieved a significant milestone by recording its very first childbirth, marking a major step forward in bringing maternal and newborn healthcare closer to the community.
Health officials described the successful delivery as more than just a medical achievement. It reflects the growing confidence of local families in public healthcare services and highlights the dedication of frontline healthcare workers who continue to strengthen healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.
For years, many expectant mothers in remote areas have had to travel long distances to access institutional delivery services, often during emergencies. With delivery facilities now available at Laitnongkseh itself, mothers can receive timely, skilled and compassionate care much closer to home.
Officials said the milestone signals the beginning of a new chapter for the sub-centre and underscores ongoing efforts to improve maternal and child health outcomes in rural communities.
The achievement has been welcomed as a collective success for the healthcare team, local authorities and the community, all of whom played a role in making the new Delivery Point operational.
As Laitnongkseh celebrates its first delivery, health workers hope it will be the first of many safe births that strengthen trust in public healthcare and ensure that quality maternal care reaches every mother and child, regardless of where they live.
