Tura, May 7: Criminals in the garb of militants entered a temporary roadside camp for workers engaged in an irrigation project in Ampati region of South West Garo Hills district on Tuesday in the daytime and kidnapped the foreman at gunpoint.

According to information received, two men in jungle fatigues entered the camp carrying pistols and after identifying the foreman directed him to come with them. The camp of the workers was at Matkolgre area along state highway-12 between Ampati and Zikzak.

The victim, Shahjahan Badshah of Haat Singimari in Assam is the thekedar or foreman of the project. His whereabouts are not known so far and it is highly suspected that ransom demand may have been made to the family by the criminals.
