Former Dhubri ADC arrested on charges of acquiring huge properties by illegal and corrupt means

Guwahati, Aug 25: Former Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Dhubri, Saibar Rahman was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly acquiring huge properties by illegal and corrupt means.

Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell arrested Rahman based on a complaint filed against him.

According to police sources, a total of 89 number of immovable properties registered in either Rahman’s or one of his two wives’ names of which market value is over Rs. 100 crores.

During the inquiry it was found that Rahman is in possession of assets both moveable and immovable to the tune of Rs. 6,38,12,188 which has been calculated up to 95 per cent disproportionate assets against his known source of income.

Rahman was arrested under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

“He being a public servant is in possession of disproportionate assets which is criminal misconduct for owning assets that are out of sync with his legal sources of income, accruing wealth while occupying a public office and is in possession of disproportionate assets and he was also unable to satisfactorily account for how he could amass the pecuniary resources/assets or properties disproportionate to his known sources of income. The investigation of the case is on,” a statement of vigilance cell stated.
