Imphal, Feb 15: Manipur continues to be on the boil with fresh violence breaking out in Churachandpur district where a mob of around 300-400 people tried to storm the office of the Superintendent of Police late Thursday night over the suspension of a police constable who was seen in a viral video interacting with armed miscreants.
The said police constable was placed under suspension by the state police and directed to return to police lines pending enquiry.
The suspension came about after the video showing him on armed duty with a group of well armed miscreants went viral across the state and beyond, revealing the kind of nexus some personnel have with armed insurgents in the state that has been under ethnic clashes since May of last year.
Manipur police stated in its X ( formerly Twitter) account that a mob numbering approximately 300-400 attempted to storm the office of SP CCP today, pelting stones etc. The SF and RAF is responding appropriately by firing tear gas shell to control the situation. Things are being under watch.
