Fresh violence in Manipur as gunfight erupts between armed groups; one dead, several injured

Imphal, Jan 27: One village volunteer was killed and four others were injured during a gunfight between two armed groups in Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts in Manipur on Saturday.

The gun battle broke out after armed cadres of rival groups engaged in a clash at Satang village, as per police sources.

Security forces rushed to the hilly areas, following which both the groups retreated.

The injured individuals were shifted to a hospital in Imphal.

A police official reported that one of the injured individuals sustained a bomb splinter to the face, while another suffered a splinter injury on the thigh.

Earlier, seven people were killed in Manipur recently by “unknown armed miscreants” in Bishnupur district at Ningthoukhong Kha-Khunou, about 42 km from Imphal on January 18.
