Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters on Wednesday that the proposal was discussed during the Conference of Superintendents of Police and Commandants.

He however said there is a lot of financial implication for raising the new police battalions.

“Therefore, we have to study and discussion is on but we have not taken a final decision on that yet,” Sangma said.

The police department had expressed the need to raise the seventh and eighth police battalions.

In June last year, the chief minister had then said the centre will have to support the state in terms of a certain percentage for raising these battalions but after a year, the entire financial impact will fall on the state government to run them.

“…so with the initial investment that is not that big compared to the overall impact in the next 15-30 years to come, so we have to examine all those aspects,” Sangma had said.
