Respite in the clouds after weeks of intense heat as IMD predicts rains for Meghalaya and region

Shillong, Apr 30: Finally! Some good news on the weather front.

After enduring weeks of unpleasant weather with high temperatures, that broke through previous records of summer, particularly in the Garo Hills region, the Indian Meteorological Department, regional centre monitoring weather patterns has issued a bulletin predicting rain and thunder showers across Meghalaya and the neighboring states in the coming days from April 30 till May 4.

Rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty wind activity is expected to cause disruptions, cautioned the IMD.

But the region will witness cooler, wetter weather and a drop in temperatures after the recent stretch of hot and sultry conditions.

Thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds with speed reaching upto 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur at isolated places over West khasi Hills, East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills and Ri-Bhoi districts on April 30.

Moderate rainfall at many places with isolated Heavy Rainfall are likely to occur at isolated places over East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills and South West Khasi Hills.

Garo Hills could face a spell of thunderstorms & lightning with gusty winds with speed reaching upto 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur at isolated places in South West Garo Hills, West Garo Hills and East Garo Hills. It will extend to South West Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills and Ri-Bhoi districts on May 2.

This is due to a cyclonic circulation lying over northeast Bangladesh and extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level. The trough now runs from north Bihar to Manipur across Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, cyclonic circulation over northeast Bangladesh and south Assam at 0.9 km above mean sea level.
