Itanagar, March 30: A one-month-old Himalayan black bear cub was successfully rescued by the Deomali Forest Division from Borduria village under the Deomali subdivision in Arunachal Pradesh.
According to officials, the cub was found stranded in an agricultural field on March 26. Local residents Ponpong Ruttum and Wanghon Lettey promptly alerted the Forest Department after discovering the animal.
Acting on the information, a team from the Borduria Forest Range, led by Range Forest Officer (RFO) Diwang Lowang, rushed to the site and safely secured the cub under the supervision of the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Deomali Forest Division.
The cub was initially provided care by the department before being transferred on March 28 to Dr. Panjit Basumatary, veterinarian at the Centre for Bear Rehabilitation and Conservation (CBRC) in Pakke Tiger Reserve, for further treatment and rehabilitation. The handover took place in the presence of officials from the Namsai Forest Division.
RFO Diwang Lowang commended the villagers for their timely intervention and urged continued public cooperation in wildlife conservation efforts, including avoiding forest destruction, poaching, and hunting.
Environment and Forest Minister Wangki Lowang also lauded the villagers for their prompt action and support to the Forest Department, underscoring the importance of community participation in protecting wildlife.
The forest department reiterated its commitment to safeguarding wildlife and appealed to citizens to report such incidents to the nearest forest authorities.
