Kohima, July 10: ICAR Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Phek successfully organized a five-day Skill Training Programme on Integrated Farming System (IFS) for Climate-Smart Agriculture from July 6 to 10, 2026 at KVK, Phek office Porba.
The programme aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of farmers on integrated and sustainable farming practices to improve productivity, increase farm income, and build resilience to climate change.
The training commenced with a welcome address and overview by Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Senior Scientist & Head, ICAR–KVK, Phek.
He emphasized the importance of Integrated Farming Systems in ensuring sustainable agricultural development, efficient resource utilization, and livelihood security for farming communities.
Dr. Singh also highlighted the potential impacts of El Niño on agriculture and livestock, and stressed the need for climate-resilient farming practices, efficient water management, and diversified farming systems to minimize risks and enhance resilience.
Technical sessions covered key components of IFS including crop diversification, integrated livestock management, soil health management, natural farming, water conservation, nutrient recycling, biogas, organic pest management, and value addition.
The sessions were conducted by Dr. T. Esther Longkumer, Dr. Hannah K. Asangla, Manjunath K. S., Dr. Valentoli, and Ms. Pooja, who shared practical knowledge and scientific recommendations with the participants.
The training also included interactive discussions, hands-on demonstrations, field visits, and an exhibition to give farmers practical exposure to various IFS components.
A special demonstration on Natural Farming was conducted, showcasing the preparation and application of natural inputs and eco-friendly practices for sustainable crop production.
Farmers actively interacted with the resource persons, clarified their queries, and appreciated the practical nature of the sessions.
The programme concluded with a feedback session where participants acknowledged the usefulness of the training and expressed willingness to adopt Integrated Farming System and Natural Farming practices on their farms to improve productivity, enhance sustainability, and strengthen their livelihoods.
