Shillong, Nov 18: The Indian Super League (ISL), which is in its 8th edition, will commence on Friday with a late kickoff at 9:30 pm in which ATK- Mohun Bagan will face Kerala Blasters at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Goa.
Mumbai City are the reigning ISL champions. They defeated Kolkata giants ATK Mohun Bagan in the final of last season. The Highlanders aka North East United FC will face Bengaluru FC on Saturday.
With an ISL club finally playing the Asian Champions League last season, it’s safe to say that the league’s status as India’s top-tier competition is well-cemented.
The ISL this season is scheduled to take place behind closed doors without fans in stadiums. The 2021-22 season brings in some new changes which could have a significant impact on the national team. The restrictions on overseas players have aligned with Asian competitions and the introduction of the 4-foreigner rule could see significant changes in the way teams line-up this season. The mandatory inclusion of an Asian in the squad has also seen teams opting for more diverse nationalities.
The 8th edition of Indian Super League include 11 teams: North East United FC, Odisha FC, Chennaiyin FC, FC Goa, Kerala Blasters FC, SC East Bengal, ATK Mohun Bagan, Hyderabad FC, Mumbai City FC, Jamshedpur FC, and Bengaluru FC.
