Vet dept gives awareness on benefits of milk, encourages dairy farming in West Jaintia Hills

Jowai, Nov 18: An awareness program on ‘Milk – A Complete Food’ was held as well as a Milk Parlour was inaugurated at the premises of the office of the District Veterinary & Animal Husbandry in Jowai on Thursday.

During the programme the Director of Dairy Development, L.S Shangpliang, said milk is a nutrient-rich liquid food that contains proteins, carbohydrates, mineral and vitamins that are required for growth. He informed that milk is important to be consumed daily and that India produces a lot of diary milk but milk production in the state is very less and farmers need to be encouraged to increase the production of milk and other dairy products and that one can benefit from various schemes of the state and central government like the National Programme for Dairy Development.

Others who spoke during the program were A.H.& Veterinary Officer, West Jaiñtia Hills, Dr. DI Kjam District and the Waheh Chnong of Mynthong, L. Pohktai.

The resource persons during the technical session were M. Shylla, Dairy Officer (Quality Control), who spoke on “Pasteurization and Preservation of Milk”, and Sahida Kyndiah, MSc. (Applied Nutrition), on “Milk- A Complete Food”.
