Shillong, Nov 18: After over two weeks of Congress’ debacle in the recently concluded bye-polls to three seats in Meghalaya, the AICC general secretary (organization) KC Venugopal and AICC general secretary in-charge of Meghalaya Manish Chatrath on Wednesday evaluated the party’s performance.
The review meeting on the Congress party’s poll preparedness was held in New Delhi wherein the AICC leaders took stock of the situation from Meghalaya Unit’s top leaders that included: MPCC president Vincent H. Pala, CLP leader Dr. Mukul Sangma, MPCC working presidents – Ampareen Lyngdoh, Marthon Sangma and James Lyngdoh, and AICC secretary in-charge Manipur Charles Pyngrope.
The meeting unanimously resolved to consolidate on all strengths of the party in order to effectively overcome hurdles and challenges faced by the party in the run up to the state Assembly elections, 2023, said a joint statement issued by Vincent and Dr Sangma.
It said the review meeting resolved to thank the electorate for their support to the INC in the three Assembly constituencies – Mawryngkneng, Mawphlang and Rajabala.
The statement noted that the increase in vote share of the party in these bye-elections is an encouraging base for the Congress and it thanks the people for the support indicated in these results.
The members also resolved to immediately prepare the party on a war footing in order to achieve a desirable result in 2023 Meghalaya Assembly elections.
The statement also underscored that the party remains united and in one voice, and will face these elections and ensure that the state is mandated to be governed by a strong, focused and corruption free government post 2023.
