Nagaon, May 18: The COVID-19 pandemic, especially with the second wave, is turning out to be crueler to humanity and the human race.
It is true that the governments at the state and the centre has been putting in efforts; courtesy the doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians, ambulance drivers, healthcare staff, etc. Yet, the crisis continues to be huge.
At Nagaon in Central Assam, the COVID-19 scare has taken turns to be worse with every passing week.
Media has been consistently reporting about the lack of healthcare facilities in the district headquarters.
Following this, MP Pradyut Bordoloi the elected parliamentarian from Nagaon constituency representing the Indian National Congress (INC), initiates an “MP COVID Facilitation Centre” with a team of volunteers at the Civil Gate area here.
Speaking to this correspondent, MP Bordoloi says, “This is a supplement to the existing healthcare system. We need to rely on government facilities. However, as the district administration takes time to process with the formalities, we are putting in efforts.”
An opposition leader, Bordoloi rises above blame-game, and takes it up on his own to do the least possible, perhaps.
He added, “We have a database of availability of beds, oxygen cylinders, ambulance, etc. and are following up with the same. We have already started getting a lot of phone calls fro patients in distress.”
Earlier, last week, Bordoloi also had a meeting with State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, following his visit to the B. P. Civil Hospital and a written address to Minister Mahanta.
