Jowai town gets boost with landfill work, road naming plan

JOWAI, DEC 9: Minister in-charge Sports and Youth Affairs Wailadmiki Shylla on Monday chaired a meeting to discuss the development of Jowai town.

Key issues discussed included traffic congestion, waste management, cleaning of River Myntdu, stray dog issues, and other development activities.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Abhinav Kumar Singh, Sub-Divisional Officer (Sadar) Jowai Vevotolu Kezo and other officials.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Shylla expressed satisfaction with the progress made in waste management, noting that localities in the urban area have been cooperating with the Municipal Board by segregating their waste into wet and dry.

He appreciated the efforts of the residents and localities in supporting proper waste management and mentioned that work on the landfill is ongoing.

The Minister also discussed the issue of stray dogs, taking into consideration the Supreme Court order, and noted that traffic congestion remains a key concern.

He proposed naming roads in Jowai Town to facilitate easier navigation for the public.

Shylla announced that a cleaning drive for River Myntdu covering 14Km will soon take place with 5000 participants expected to take part.
