Shillong, May 29: Eight suspected Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended by the Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) from a village in West Jaintia Hills District on Thursday morning.
The apprehended persons, which included four males and four females, were travelling in two Wagon R vehicles (ML 05 AE 4857 and ML 05 AB 3544) before they were intercepted at Demthring village.

All of them failed to produce valid documents and accordingly, they were taken and handed over to Jowai police station for necessary action, the JSU said in a statement.
The apprehended persons also revealed that another vehicle (Alto) had fled the incident on seeing the checkpoint.
A complaint has been lodged by the JSU urging the police to take action against the illegal immigrants as per law.
