Guwahati, Sept 26: The gates of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, Assam’s pride and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, officially reopened today for the 2025–26 tourism season, welcoming visitors from across the globe eager to witness the iconic one-horned rhinoceros, wild elephants, tigers, and a dazzling variety of birdlife.

The inaugural ceremony at the Western Range, Bagori, was marked by a traditional puja seeking blessings for the park, followed by a series of cultural and conservation-led events.

The occasion was graced by Kaziranga MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Khumtai MLA Mrinal Saikia, PCCF & CWLW Dr Vinay Gupta , and Nagaon DC Devasish Sharma , alongside senior officials and local leaders.

The day’s events reflected Kaziranga’s blend of heritage and conservation. At Kohora Range, tributes were paid to cultural icon Dr Bhupen Hazarika in his centenary year, and to Kaziranga’s unsung hero Mahi Chandra Miri, remembered for his role in protecting the park. His nephew, Ajoy Patir, and members of Patir Opin Kebang were felicitated.

CSR partnerships brought tangible support for frontline protection. REC launched solar-powered drinking water facilities across 120 anti-poaching camps, while NEEPCO handed over a 4×4 ambulance designed for jungle roads.

Jungle safari drivers, after completing a refresher training programme under the Assam Skill Development Mission, received new uniforms for a more professional and unified appearance.

In a major sustainability push, LIC’s CSR initiative SAAHAS – Kaziranga Green Future was launched to tackle waste management across five Gram Panchayats in the Kaziranga landscape, including strategies for plastic reduction.

Adding scientific weight to the occasion, a new report—Explorative Study of Insects and Spiders of the Woodland Habitat of Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve—was released.

Conducted jointly by Kaziranga authorities and The Corbett Foundation, the rapid survey documented 283 unique species spanning 18 insect orders and 2 arachnid orders. The findings underscore Kaziranga not just as a sanctuary for megafauna but also as a hotspot of invertebrate diversity vital for pollination, pest regulation, and nutrient
