Shillong, 6 Aug: A delegation led by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) chief, Shemborlang Rynjah on Wednesday met the Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of District Council Affairs (DCA) department Prestone Tynsong requesting his intervention for the immediate release of the royalty shares to the council.

Rynjah has alleged that the there has been undue delay on the part of the state government to release the royalty share to the KHADC despite other autonomous district councils (ADCs) having already received theirs.

“We have also followed up through letters in the past few months but till today we are yet to receive our share. Therefore, we felt the need to meet the deputy chief minister to express our concern over the issue,” he told reporters.

Asked, the KHADC chief said the deputy chief minister did not give any reason behind the delay in the release of the KHADC’s royalty share.

“He (Tynsong) however only directed the concerned officer to look into the matter and take necessary action regarding the royalty share,” he added.

Rynjah also informed that the delegation has also sought the support of the state government for conducting more research on the Khasi indigenous community.
