Must read

Shillong, May 6: The Khasi Jaintia Christian Leaders Forum (KJCLF) on Friday urged Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to scrap the proposal to legalize gambling in the state, especially casinos, citing its ‘immoral’ aspect.

Secretary of KJCLF Rev. EH Kharkongor said they are concerned about its immoral aspects and that studies have proven detrimental impact of gambling on individuals and families, including affecting mental health.

He said gambling also leads to criminal activities affecting the individual, family and the society in different ways.

Asked about the CM’s assurance to the forum, he said that the CM has assured that before the Act is implemented, stakeholders and locals will be consulted. He added that CM has assured that rules for protection of the locals and citizens of the state will also be in place if they go ahead with it.
