Kohima, June 16: The Tribal Women Bodies of Kohima have called for a peaceful public rally on June 19, seeking justice in the alleged sexual harassment case involving a suspended IAS officer and expressing solidarity with the complainants.
The rally is scheduled to begin at 10 am from the Old MLA Hostel Junction in Kohima. Organisers have appealed to tribal bodies, churches, student organisations, youth groups, women’s groups and members of the public to participate in large numbers.
The protest comes amid ongoing legal proceedings against Reny Wilfred, a 2015-batch IAS officer and former Joint Secretary of the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), who has been accused by multiple women employees of seeking sexual favours in exchange for salary hikes, employment opportunities and other benefits.
An FIR was registered against Wilfred on April 2, 2025 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and a chargesheet was filed on July 30, 2025. He has remained under suspension since May 21, 2025. Wilfred has challenged the chargesheet before the Gauhati High Court’s Kohima Bench, while trial proceedings continue in a Kohima court.
In a public notice, the Tribal Women Bodies said the rally aims to demonstrate collective commitment to justice, accountability and the welfare of society.
Participants have been requested to wear traditional attire as a symbol of unity and identity, and to maintain peace, discipline and order throughout the programme.
The notice was issued by Convenor Neithono R. Sothu and Member Secretary Atono Kense, who said a strong public turnout would reinforce the community’s collective voice on the issue.
