Laban’s Ïewdak market to get facelift, new building to have over 200 shops

Shillong, Nov 13: The Ïewdak, a market in Laban since the British regime, is set to get a facelift with local legislator and Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai laying the foundation stone for the construction of the RCC G+4 market building on Saturday.

The new commercial building of 5 floors and over 200 stalls is expected to be completed in about 24 months’ time. The new building of Ïewdak Laban has been sanctioned under the schemes of the N.E.C, ME- 2552, OH – Creation of Capital Assets amounting to 14,27,500 rupees.

Speaking to reporters, Shullai said the old stalls at Ïewdak Municipal market will be dismantled and a new building will be constructed soon. Shullai said the Dorbar Shnong Laban and himself have always tried ways and means in preserving this heritage market.

“This market will generate employment to the educated unemployed youths of our greater Raid Laban area as the newly constructed market building will have many stalls,” he added.

Shullai further informed the building will have proper parking area in the ground floor with lift system, and also house a cultural complex on one of the floors.
