Large scale vaccination for young adults from Monday to halt possible 3rd pandemic wave

Must read

Tura, June 20: Fears of a possible third wave of the corona virus pandemic hitting India and other parts of the world are rising and alongside governments are pushing for maximum vaccination to stop its spread by raising herd immunity.

In Garo Hills too, efforts are underway to halt the surge from a possible third wave of the pandemic. The Meghalaya government has moved for large scale vaccination of the young population of the region, from the age group of 18 and above, against the covid-19 infection caused by the corona virus and people are being given the opportunity to head to any of its several vaccine sites to register and get the vaccine by display of their identity cards before time runs out.

Previously, people had to get registered online with a government website to secure a slot for the vaccine but this was found to be greatly hindering for many who either did not own a smart phone or a disruption free internet.

Tura is the biggest town with the largest population in the Garo Hills and keeping this in mind, the West Garo Hills district administration has gone in for an Intensified Covid Vaccination for the young population before time runs out.

“All that the youth have to do is to walk in and produce their identity cards to avail of the free vaccination. I urge the youth to participate to make Tura free from Covid-19,” said DC Ram Singh.

From the North of Tura, beginning at Cherangre, to the southern part, at Sakti Sangha (Dharamsala), a total of 25 vaccination centres have been established to provide the vaccine for the hundreds of young people who will be lining up from Monday morning onwards, beginning 9:30 AM up to 2:30 in the afternoon, and the camp will go on till the 23rd of June.
