Legislators to decide CM candidate: Pala on party’s CM face, take a clandestine dig at Ampareen

Shillong, Feb 9: Congress chief Vincent H Pala on Thursday said that the party does not project a chief ministerial face in advance. “In Meghalaya, we don’t project a CM candidate in advance. Once the legislators are elected, they will decide as to who will be the chief minister,” Pala told reporters.

Stating that there is no dearth of competent leaders in the Congress, the Shillong MP said, “We have enough people to be the chief minister. So normally we don’t project a CM face but definitely the people will give a mandate and the CM will be chosen by the legislators.”

The Congress had suffered a huge setback after 17 legislators deserted the party and joined other political parties.

Pala said all those who were involved in many scams are no longer with the Congress.

“Those who were against the headmen, and those who were involved in the education scam and others are no longer with the party. Today, we can say that people who are in the Congress have no scams as they have never committed any scam be it the previous ministers like Celestine Lyngdoh, Ronnie V Lyngdoh, PN Syiem. I can proudly tell you that those who are involved in many scams are no longer with the Congress,” he said.

He said therefore, if the Congress is given a chance, it will ensure Meghalaya has a corruption free government.
