SHILLONG, JUL 12: NPP Mahendraganj MLA Sanjay A Sangma on Sunday toured Balughat village in South West Garo Hills, where heavy monsoon rains triggered landslides that damaged homes and farmland.
During the visit, the MLA met residents impacted by the slides, took stock of the losses, and handed over immediate financial aid to help families manage in the aftermath.
No casualties have been reported so far, but officials noted that standing crops were badly hit, threatening the livelihoods of several households in the area.
Expressing concern over the scale of damage, Shri Sangma urged villagers to stay alert as rains continue and assured them that their grievances would be forwarded to the relevant departments.
He said he would push for additional support and long-term rehabilitation measures for those affected.
The MLA’s visit comes amid continued rainfall across the district, which has led to multiple reports of slope failures and road disruptions in low-lying areas.
