Ampati, July 20: The Mahendraganj police have arrested 3 people on the charges of robbing a man of cash besides threatening him, late in the night of July 11, 2023.
Mahendraganj Police made the arrests based on a First Information Report (FIR) by Juda Ch Marak, a resident of Kawahagra, South West Garo Hills, on July 12, 2023, about the harrowing incident of armed robbery at his residence.
According to the complaint, on the night of July 11, 2023, around 11:45 PM, a group of unidentified individuals clad in camouflage dress forcefully entered his house. The armed assailants allegedly snatched Rs. 11,600 from the victim and issued chilling threats of returning for more money while menacingly warning of dire consequences if he resisted.
Mahendraganj Police Station promptly registered a case vide Mahendraganj PS Case No. 20 (07) 2023 under IPC sections 447, 506, 394 and 34, and launched a counter-insurgency operation led by Naman Kumar, Officer-in-charge of Mahendraganj Police Station, and other personnel from the South West Garo Hills DEF.
During the operation, the team successfully apprehended three suspects linked to the robbery. The arrested individuals have been identified as Walseng A Sangma hailing from Madra, Purakhsia; Rakkam M Sangma from Adangre, Koinadubi, Chandabui; and Batseng A Marak from Sandagre, Polpola, Chenggapara, all from West Garo Hills.
Following the arrests, police also recovered two daggers (one small and one long), camouflage dress, and a motorcycle (Glamour) bearing registration number ML 08A 8035, from the possession of the suspects.
Vikash Kumar, the Superintendent of Police of South West Garo Hills, confirmed the operation and informed that further investigation is going in the case.
