Nongpoh, May 17: Residents of Maikhuli village, located near the Meghalaya-Assam border, gathered on Thursday, and demanded immediate repairs and the installation of culverts and proper drainage systems to address frequent waterlogging that has damaged internal roads.
The incident occurred near Pillangkata Police Outpost, close to the Assam Border Outpost in Ri Bhoi District. Large numbers of Assam villagers voiced their concerns over the damaged roads, blaming heavy vehicle traffic, while residents of Maikhuli protested the demands.
The situation escalated briefly, leading to police intervention from Khanapara Police Station and Pillangkata Police Outpost.
Government officials from both Meghalaya and Assam were alerted, and the matter is now under the jurisdiction of the Deputy Commissioners of Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya, and Kamrup District, Assam, who are working to resolve the matter.
