MAMOGI Band’s fusion of rock, electronic and jazz leaves Tura spellbound

Tura, May 15: The MAMOGI band’s concert in Tura on Saturday evening was a feast for the senses. Their unique fusion of instrumental music that covers progressive rock, electronic, and jazz left the crowd of Tura spellbound and yearning for more.

The band, which features renowned bassist Mohini Dey, the incredible Gino Banks and superstar saxophonist Mark Hartsuch, showcased their incredible talent and versatility throughout the evening. The crowd was treated to a variety of musical genres, from high-energy rock to mellow jazz, all expertly blended together to create a sound that was both captivating and unforgettable.

But it wasn’t just the music that made the evening special. The atmosphere inside the District Auditorium in West Garo Hills was electric with the crowd fully engaged and entranced by the band’s performance. There was a palpable sense of joy and connection in the air, as people from all walks of life came together to celebrate the power of music.

The concert was made possible by the Duram Association of Music and Arts (DAMA) in association with PRIME Meghalaya.

Bass & Drums workshop

Prior to the concert, DAMA and PRIME Meghalaya also organised a Bass & Drums workshop featuring bass virtuoso Mohini Dey and drummer Gino Banks. The workshop was held at the Tree House Resort, Tura on Friday (May 12, 2023) as a part of ‘nine months Prime Music Incubation Program’.

During the workshop, Mohini and Gino shared their expertise, offered tips and tricks, and answer questions from participants.

It is to be mentioned here that Mohini Dey is a renowned bassist who has collaborated with some of the biggest names in music, including AR Rahman, Steve Vai, and Marcus Miller. Gino Banks is a well-known drummer who has played with artists such as Zakir Hussain, John McLaughlin, and Shankar Mahadevan.
