Man who raped child gets 14 years Jail from Tura court

Tura, May 20: A sexual predator who committed the heinous crime of raping a little girl child in the plain belt area of Phulbari in West Garo Hills, five years back, has finally been given his due for the crime after a special POCSO court in Tura announced this week his sentencing to 14 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ten thousand rupees.

The accused Saddam Hussain of Pushkunipara village of Bholarbhita in Phulbari region of West Garo Hills had sexually assaulted the child when she went to play with her friends in a playground near their home on the evening of 23rd of June 2018.

A meticulous investigation conducted by UB woman police sub inspector Sildha N Marak led to the framing of charges on 31st of August, 2018.

After completion of trial, the court of special judge POCSO found the accused guilty and convicted him. Subsequent to the judgement, the court sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for a period of 14 years and a Rs 10,000 fine.

In the event of default of payment of the fine, the convicted rapist would have to spend an additional three months of simple imprisonment, announced the POCSO Court in Tura.
