Imphal, July 10: At least one person was killed and several people injured on Monday following violent overnight clashes in Manipur’s Imphal West and Kangpokpi district border area, Army sources said.
Sources added, indiscriminate firing was heard from Phayeng and Singda villages aimed at nearby villages and ills in general area Kangchup. Exchange of fire between two communities took place, Army sources added.
Proactive action by Assam Rifles resulted in cessation of firing by wee hours today
Un-provoked intermittent firing started again in morning from Singda towards hills.
There likelihood of casualty on both sides in the firing between two communities not ruled out, Army sources further added.
Joint search by Army and Police and reinforcement has been sent to the area.
At least 150 people have been killed and several hundred injured since ethnic violence broke out in the state on May 3.
