Imphal, Jan 24: Manipur BJP leader Laishram Rameswor Singh was shot dead by unidentified armed men near his house at Khetri Leikai in Manipur’s Thoubal district on Tuesday.

According to reports, Singh was immediately rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his bullet injuries.

“The BJP leader was standing near gate of his house when the gunmen suddenly came in car and fired at him,” said a police official.

The 50-year-old Singh was the convenor of the state ex-servicemen cell of the ruling BJP in Manipur.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh condoled the death of the BJP leader and paid floral tribute to him after his body was brought at party office in Imphal.

Meanwhile, police have arrested one person in connection with the killing. “Our investigation has started. We have traced down one car and the driver has disclosed the details. We don’t know the motive of the crime because the investigation is at preliminary stage,” said a police official.

The BJP condemned the killing of their party workers and demanded strict action against the culprits.
