Imphal, Aug 27: The Kuki bodies of Manipur asking the 10 MLAs from the community to refrain from attending assembly session on Tuesday (August 29) resolved that no resolution adopted by the assembly will be binding in Kuki areas.
Ten Kuki-Zomi-Hmar MLAs of Manipur are likely to not attend the August 29 assembly session of state assembly.
It stated that the matter, any Kuki-Zo MLA participating in the Special
Session must himself/herself hold all responsibility to answer the people.
Moreover, it is utterly regrettable that a State Government is at the dictate of a particular community.
There are two ministers from this community in the council of ministers. While Letpao Haokip is Tribal Affairs and Hills Minister, Nemcha Kipgen is industry minister. Houses of two other cabinet ministers, Letpao Haokip and Nemcha Kipgen, were burnt to ashes during the ethnic strife which broke out on May 3 .
BJP MLA Kipgen is among the 10 Kuki MLAs seeking separate administration for the tribals.
On the other hand, the apex body of the Nagas in Manipur, United Naga Council (UNC) has asked Naga legislators to abstain from the dictation of some Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) who are dictating to the government for convening a Special Assembly Session on or before August 5. There are 10 Naga MLAs in Manipur. Manipur has 60 member assembly.
Senior tribal leader and spokesman of the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF), Ginza Vualzong earlier had said that tribal ministers, MLAs, as well as the general public are scared of visiting the Meitei-dominated state capital of Imphal.
