Imphal, Aug 10: The Joint Student Body (JSB), comprising of ZSF, KSO, and HSA, staged a massive rally on Thursday in Churachandpur town, uniting frontline workers and village defenders, to commemorate what it termed as 100 days of tribal resistance.

The rally, which commenced at 11 AM, marked the culmination of 100 days since the onset of the clash between the hill majority Kuki-Zo community and valley majority Meitei community. It also sought to acknowledge the unwavering resistance displayed by village defense units against the concerted efforts to marginalize tribal communities.

The JSB members displayed banners that read “Our lands, our rights our identity, united we stand”, “100 days of unbated Meitei atrocity”, among others along with carrying Indian national flags.

The JSB highlighted the significance of the day as a tribute to the tribal heroes who laid down their lives in defense of their people. The event served as an occasion to honour the village guards for their steadfast defense against the aggressors. Minlal, a leader belonging to the Kuki-Zo tribal group, stressed that their pursuit for separate administration is rooted in historical demands dating back to the 1960s and 70s and they will not rest until their demands are met.

He also refuted claims made by certain politicians branding them as illegal immigrants.

The rally kicked off at the Lamka Public Ground at 11:00 AM, proceeding towards the Tipaimukh road. Upon reaching Bungmual, the procession diverted onto the Dorcas road, subsequently intersecting with the Teddim road – a central thoroughfare in Churachandpur town. The rally continued, before culminating at the designated site – Wall of Remembrance. At this solemn location, village defenders paid their respects to the fallen tribal heroes who gave their lives in the defense of their communities.

A moment of silence, lasting a minute, was also observed to honour the memory of the fallen tribal members. The village defenders were lauded as heroes during their procession, receiving accolades from residents who credited their efforts for the security and well-being of their villages.
