Manipur: Two arrested for extortion activities in Kangpokpi

Imphal, Jan 23: The Anti-Extortion Unit of Manipur Police has arrested two persons allegedly involved in extortion activities in Kangpokpi district.

The arrests were made during a joint operation conducted on Thursday in and around Motbung Bazar under the jurisdiction of Gamnom Saparmeina police station.

Police identified the accused as Kaikhochon Kipgen (29), a resident of Saparmeina village in Kangpokpi district, and Kaisei Khongsai (22), a resident of Karbi Anglong district in Assam, who was reportedly staying in Jangnom village in Kangpokpi.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, joint teams carried out a coordinated cordon-and-search operation in the early hours of Thursday, leading to the arrest of the two suspects.

The arrests come in the wake of recent reports of extortion targeting the Rajasthan School Games Wushu team in Kangpokpi district.

Both accused have been handed over to the police for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
