Manipur unrest: 10 Naga MLAs met Amit Shah; says Naga areas should not be touched

Imphal, June 9: The Naga MLA forum, Manipur met Union Home minister Amit Shah on Thursday evening in New Delhi regarding the ongoing crisis in Manipur. The MLAs were accompanied by Outer Manipur Lok Sabha MP Dr. Lorho Pfoze of the Naga People’s Front.

All the 10 Naga MLA’s urged Amit Shah to solve the ongoing crisis in violence hit Manipur.

The ten Naga MLAs include five from the Naga People’s Front including transport minister in the Biren Singh’s government Ram Muivah, Khashim Vashum, Awangbow Newmai, Leishiyo Keishing and Losii Dikho.

Two MLAs belong to Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP)- Dinganglung Ganmei and SS Olish, while N. Kayisii and Janhemlung Panmei belong to Conrad Sangma’s National People’s Party, and J Kumo Sha an Independent MLA.

While addressing a press conference in Imphal, one of the MLA said, “We have met Union Home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Thursday evening and had a fruitful discussion. Union home minister invited us and following his invitation, we 10 naga MLA’s of Manipur met him”.

He further said that they appreciated him for his prompt action to bring back normalcy in Manipur.

He said the Naga legislatures are trying their best to bring the two Manipuri communities together by resolving their issues.

He also informed that they have conveyed him that before making any arrangement for separate administration, consultation should be done with us.

“We clearly told him that the Naga areas should not be touched because it was contention for many years as we know that their are many issues in the past”.

He added that they made no demands but they made it clear that the Naga areas should not be touched because it will create more problems.

Amit Shah assured them that before making any arrangement they would consult with them.
