MBBS Admissions: Meghalaya Govt allots 93 Central Pool seats for 2025-26

Must read

Shillong, Oct 7: The state government has announced the allotment of 93 MBBS seats under the central pool quota for the academic session 2025-26.

The list was released after addressing concerns raised by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) regarding alleged irregularities in the allotment process.

Of the 93 seats, 14 candidates were allotted in the unreserved category, 37 in the Khasi-Jaintia category, 37 in the Garo category, and 5 in the OST/SC category. Additionally, 35 candidates have been placed on the waiting list.

As per the order issued by the Joint Secretary in-charge of Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Rezina Ch Marak on Tuesday, the list has been published in supersession and pursuance of the minutes of the meeting held on October 6.

Notably, one candidate, Tanuska Chakravorty, was initially allotted a seat in the unreserved category but has been pushed to the waiting list following the review.

On October 3, the state government had put on hold the acceptance of nominations for MBBS courses under the Central Pool quota following the KSU’s protest.

The union during a meeting held with health minister Wailadmiki Shylla on Monday had pointed out that the selection process lacks transparency and meritocracy, with students scoring lower marks being included in the open (unreserved) category while Khasi students with higher scores are overlooked.

The KSU had demanded the deletion of Clause 9.6 from the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), which requires students to choose between the open category and the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. It had argued that this clause is ambiguous and deprives students of their rightful place in the open category.

Meanwhile, selected candidates for the course have been directed to report to the Health and Family department, Room No 502, Additional Building of Meghalaya Secretary, on October 7, 8 and 9 before 5 pm for acceptance of the course and execution of the bond-cum-agreement. Candidates must bring four passport-size photographs and their Aadhaar card.

Selected candidates who failed to report according to the fixed date as specified above will automatically lose his or her right to nomination and the next eligible candidate will be nominated.

The terms & conditions as specified in the advertisement or the courses etc, shall be binding, the order stated.
