Shillong, Oct 7: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) South West Khasi Hills District Unit has demanded appointment of two regular assistant teachers at the Nongrim Warding Government LP School under Mawsynram C&RD block.
In a letter to the District School Education Officer (DSEO) East Khasi Hills, KSU said the school, which was established in 1972 and currently serves over 50 students, has been functioning without any regular or permanent teacher since June 2025.
Following the demise of a regular teacher, the school has relied on volunteer teachers appointed by the School Managing Committee for the past four months.
The KSU argues that this arrangement is unsustainable and jeopardizes the quality and continuity of learning for the children.
“Therefore, we most vehemently and urgently request that your esteemed office immediately facilitate the appointment of two regular Assistant Teachers for Nongrim Warding Government L.P. School,” the union stated in the letter.
“This prolonged and unsustainable reliance on temporary volunteer(s) not only places an unfair burden but is also fundamentally unacceptable, as it severely jeopardizes the quality and continuity of learning for the children. The absence of permanent teachers has already significantly impacted the students’ educational rights and their future prospects,” it added.
