Must read

Shillong, Jan 19: Meghalaya Cabinet on Wednesday approved the recommendations given by the three Regional Committees to amicably resolve the Assam – Meghalaya boundary dispute.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said these recommendations, along with the recommendations from Assam government, will be submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for further action. The CM informed that both the stage governments will be meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday evening, after 6 PM.

On the query that Assam has already made the report public, the Meghalaya CM insisted that the government will not be sharing the committees’ reports. He, however, did mention that the reports have been finalized and they will be presented to the MHA, where Assam will also share its reports.

“We have finalized and we will be presenting this to MHA and Assam also will be presenting it to MHA. After we have detailed discussion there, the MHA will have to come to a final conclusion but more or less the structure has been reached after a long drawn exercise between the two states,” Sangma said.

However, he refused to divulge details of the report, stating that the contents of the report will only be made public after the meeting with MHA.
