Shillong, Jan 3: The Meghalaya EMRI Workers Union (MEMRIWU) has announced one-week strike beginning Monday midnight after the government and EMRI management’s failure to meet their demands.
The MEMRIWU’s strike is in demand of better salary and job security.
Speaking to reporters in Shillong, President of MEMRIWU, Microlena Syiemlieh said that the union had given two weeks time to the government to meet their demands but both the government and the management have ignored their demands.
“On December 13 we have written to the government, to the Management and the DHS stating that if they don’t fulfilled our demands within two weeks time, we will go for a strong agitation… so today we as the association has announced that from tonight we will stop our services, from midnight no one will take up any cases as part of our strike,” he said
“It’s sad they treated us this way… being frontline workers we have served the public from our hearts bur no one is listening to our problems,” added Syiemlieh.
The EMRI Workers Union on Tuesday will sit and discuss their issues with the Joint Director, NHM in Shillong.
