Meghalaya hosts first-of-its-kind NE investment platform, 800+ delegates expected

Shillong, Jun 10: Meghalaya will host the North East India Infrastructure Summit on June 15-16 at Lariti Performing Centre, Shillong, with the aim of positioning the region as a unified investment destination, Commissioner & Secretary Sanjay Goyal said Wednesday.

“This event has been envisaged as a regional investment and infrastructure platform for all the North Eastern states including Meghalaya… This is one of its kinds of summits wherein we are planning to bring all the states,” Goyal said.

The Chief Minister has written to all NE chief ministers, Union ministers and chief secretaries, and confirmations are coming in for the two-day event.

The summit will focus on connectivity, tourism, logistics, aviation, border infrastructure, food processing and PPP investments.

Over 800 industry delegates are expected for 8-9 thematic sessions, exhibitions and Union ministry pavilions.

“The objective is basically to promote these states as a suitable and attractive destination for investments… These two days are basically focused towards this,” he said.

Goyal said the platform will enable dialogue between ministries and industry to address investor concerns.

“There will be round tables wherein the ministries will be hearing the industries, where in the industries will be hearing the ministries… we will be in a position to work out some solid recommendations to the union government,” he said.

Organised with FICCI North Eastern Region and Build India, the summit will also push sustainable tourism for NE states.

“How good brands can come here, how policy and sustainable tourism can come in our states, so that it can reduce pollution, it can also bring good tourism to all the states in the North East,” Goyal said.
