Baghmara, May 29: In a bid to promote shooting sports among the youth and identify emerging talent from South Garo Hills, an awareness programme on shooting sports was organised at the Sports Complex in Baghmara on Friday.
The programme was jointly organised by the Shooting Association of Meghalaya in collaboration with the Office of the District Sports Officer, South Garo Hills, and the South Garo Hills District Shooting Sports Association.
Students, sports enthusiasts and community members participated in the event, where speakers highlighted the growing opportunities in shooting sports and the importance of discipline, concentration, patience and responsibility required in the field.
Organisers also cited the achievements of celebrated Indian shooter Abhinav Bindra, the country’s first individual Olympic gold medallist, to inspire local youth to pursue the sport at competitive levels.
Officials said such initiatives are aimed at expanding the reach of shooting sports in Meghalaya and encouraging talented youngsters from South Garo Hills to take part in state and national-level competitions.
The programme concluded with an appeal to students to actively engage in sports and develop a healthy and focused lifestyle.
