Tura, July 21: A 21-year-old man was arrested on Sunday after he allegedly attempted to murder a 16-year-old boy in Dolguri village under the jurisdiction of Selsella Outpost, West Garo Hills District.

According to police, the accused, Abhijit Hajong, son of (L) Ranjit Hajong, stabbed Nomon Hajong, son of Kormondev Hajong, twice; once in the chest and once in the abdomen, at around 11:00 AM in front of the Dolguri Durga Puja Mandir.

The injured minor was immediately rushed to Tura Civil Hospital (TCH), where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Police have confirmed that the accused has been taken into custody. Preliminary reports suggest that Abhijit Hajong suffers from mental illness and was under medication at the time of the incident.

An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the attack.
