DIBRUGARH, June 8: An 18-year-old girl who was reported missing from Dibrugarh on Monday was rescued hours later from inside a sack at Tinsukia Railway Station, prompting police to launch an investigation into a suspected kidnapping.

According to preliminary information, the teenager had gone for her routine morning walk near P.N. Road in Dibrugarh’s Shantipara area when she allegedly disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Family members later alerted the police after she failed to return home.

The case took a dramatic turn when a passenger at Tinsukia Railway Station spotted a suspicious sack lying unattended on a platform and informed railway authorities.

On opening the sack, officials found a young woman trapped inside. She was immediately rescued by Railway Police and local law enforcement personnel and taken for medical examination.

Police suspect the rescued woman is the same teenager who was reported missing from Dibrugarh earlier in the day.

The shocking discovery has raised the possibility of an abduction attempt spanning two districts, though investigators are yet to establish the motive or identify those involved.

Dibrugarh Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Abhijit Dilip said investigators are examining CCTV footage from Tinsukia Railway Station and other locations to trace the movement of the victim and identify the suspects.

“The investigation is at a preliminary stage. CCTV footage from the railway station and other areas is being scrutinised. Further updates will be provided as the probe progresses,” the SSP said.

Police teams have launched a search operation and are working to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the teenager’s disappearance and subsequent recovery.

The incident has triggered concern among residents in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia, with many demanding swift action against those responsible.

Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
