Aizawl, Aug 11: The Mizoram government has commenced collecting biometric details of Myanmar nationals who sought refuge in the state following the 2021 military takeover and ongoing conflicts in Myanmar.
The exercise, covering fingerprints and photographs, has been launched across all 11 districts, with nearly 2,000 individuals already documented.
The drive is being carried out by district administrations under the supervision of the home department, with support from local NGOs and civil society organisations that have been providing humanitarian aid to the refugees.

More than 30,000 Myanmar nationals are currently living in Mizoram, sheltered in community halls or staying with relatives. The influx was triggered by the military’s crackdown on rebel groups and pro-democracy protesters.
Mizoram shares a 510-km border with Myanmar, making it a key refuge point for those fleeing violence.
