Mizoram: Drugs worth Rs 10 crore seized, two arrested

Aizawl, Aug 28: Mizoram police have seized 5 lakh tablets of Methamphetamine and arrested two persons from Assam during an operation near Aizawl on Thursday.

The persons have been identified as Mantu Kumar Deb (45) and Subhas Das (33), both residents of Assam’s Karimganj district.

According to police, the contraband worth Rs. 10 crore in the local market were recovered from a truck during a joint operation by state police and its sister agency on Thursday evening in Sairang village.

“The two accused tried to run away when police, who acted on specific information, intercepted their vehicles during a random checking of vehicles near a bridge in Sairang on Thursday evening,” a police official said.

A case has been registered against them under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

Heroin worth Rs 24.50 lakh seized

In another operation against drugs, state excise and narcotic officials attested four people on Thursday for possessing over 800 grams of heroin worth Rs 24.50 lakh during a raid at Mualthuam North village in South Mizoram’s Lunglei district.

The four accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

“The drug mafias are running the drugs trade in Mizoram which shares international boundary with Myanmar and very easily they transport the drugs to other country. Its a big nexus which has been going on from a long time,” said a source.
