Must read

Shillong, Apr 17: Dominant wins, spirited comebacks and last-minute drama marked Day 3 of the 5th Meghalaya State League (MSL 5), with Mawlarshong SC, Langsning FC and Janepih Youth SCA emerging as the biggest winners in an otherwise closely fought round of matches.

In Mawkyrwat (Group H), Mawlarshong SC turned the game around in style to register a commanding 5-1 victory over Seng Samla Umdang Pyllun. Umdang Pyllun had taken the lead in the 30th minute through Rangkynsaistar Mawsor, but the advantage proved short-lived. Mawlarshong struck back before half-time with goals from Hopefullness Wanniang (36’) and Arkwis Wanniang (43’), before taking complete control in the second half. Wiwonstar Nongsiej netted a brace (74’, 85’), while Lenny Kravitz Lyngdoh (83’) added another to seal an emphatic win.

A similar comeback story unfolded in Mairang (Group F), where a large home crowd witnessed Langsning FC overturn an early setback to defeat Mishon SSCC 4-1. Mishon had made a flying start with Rikyrshan Warjri scoring in the third minute – the fastest goal of the tournament so far. However, Langsning responded almost immediately, with Nelson Rymbai scoring twice within three minutes (5’, 8’) to swing the momentum. Kyrmenskhem Mukhim (45’) extended the lead before the break, and Manbhalang Nongmin (77’) wrapped up the win in the second half.

In Williamnagar (Group G), Janepih Youth SCA secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Attong Matgrik FC, continuing the latter’s struggles from the previous season. Goals from Rishembhalang Wanniang (38’), Banteilang Synnia (49’) and Edyson Iawphniaw (65’) ensured Janepih cruised to victory.

The day also saw tightly contested draws. In Amlarem (Group C), Laskein SCSC and Lamin XI SCC shared the spoils in a 2-2 encounter, with both teams taking turns to lead. Laskein scored through Rithrangmiki Biam (14’) and Iomaikyjohn Lamare (77’), while Lamin XI replied via Jowel Khongdup (24’) and Genial Lamin (44’).

Another evenly matched game in Wahiajer (Group E) ended 1-1 between Iatyllilang Lumsehkot CSC and Lamyrsiang SCC. After a goalless first half, Soniroy Suchiang (58’) gave Lumsehkot the lead, but Eborki Marsharing (81’) equalised late in the match.

One of the most dramatic moments of the day came at the MFA Ground in Shillong (Group B), where Mawphu SC snatched a 1-0 win over Mawlum Tyrsad SCC through a stoppage-time penalty. Banman Roy Nongsiej’s run into the box forced a foul from goalkeeper Damankhraw Khongsit, and Iakmenlang Khongjee calmly converted from the spot in the 94th minute.

Rymbai Shkenshynriah SC also edged past Jalaphet Moochut Pyrdung SC 1-0 in Khliehriat (Group D), with Monush Lapang scoring the decisive goal in the 74th minute.
