MSOA conducts Sports Talent Identification test in East Garo Hills, 2 boys exhibit exceptional talent

Williamnagar, April 17: The Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA), in collaboration with Department of Sports and Youth Affairs Government of Meghalaya, under supervision of Australian Olympian, conducted the Sports Talent Identification at the Loyola College ground in East Garo Hills on Monday. A total of 276 students from four schools were tested in four tests: 20M sprint, 10M Speed Ladder Run, Vertical Jump, and Compass Drill.

The Sports Talent Identification programme is part of the STAR sports talent Identification program of the state which aims to identify the sporting talent of youths of Meghalaya and to develop them into World Class Elite Athletes. These top athletes would go on to represent the state at the highest level such as state, national and Olympics.

The program was conducted in the presence of Vibhor Agarwal, Deputy commissioner, East Garo Hills District, Fr. Sunny Augustine, Principal, Loyola college, John F Kharshiing, Working President, Meghalaya State Olympic Association, Babira Momin, District Sports Officer, DSYA, Govt of Meghalaya, Dipshon Rynthathiang, Chairman, MSOA Podium Finish Committee including officials from the Sports Talent Identification team.

The initial reports indicate two boys of 16 yrs and 11 yrs old from Loyola school performed with 6405 – 16YO Male, VJ – 72cm, 20m – 3.08sec, Ladder – 2.49sec, CD – 7.34sec and 6444 – 11yo Male VJ – 63.5 cm, 20m – 3.47sec Ladder – 2.81 sec, CD – 9.65sec. These two, according to their ages, have exceptional talent and their performance is equivalent to international global benchmarks. There are likely to be good results from Monday’s test.

The results will be released after analysis after a month and sent to all the heads of institutions.
