MSSASA seeks clarification on denial of MTET 2021 certificate for Upper Primary category

Shillong, Feb 5: The Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan School Association (MSSASA) is irked with the Directorate of Educational Research and Training, Meghalaya for not issuing Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET) – 2021 certificates to the Upper Primary teachers who have cleared the test.

In a letter to DERT Director, JP Lakiang, MSSASA president Aristotle C. Rymbai said there is a need for clarification as teachers who have cleared the MTET 2021 test are not being given their certificate citing that they are in-service but had marks “below 45% in Degree”.

Rymbai, however, said that NCTE guidelines for conducting Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) issued to all secretaries/commissioners of education of state governments/UTs and the Meghalaya education department’s notification dated April 22, 2021 for conducting the MTET for elementary school teachers had stated, “the minimum qualification to be eligible to apply for MTET – 2021 for Class VI – VIII (Upper Primary category) is Graduation and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known).”

“(Referring to the) facts and notifications, it is very clear that candidates who acquired below 45% in Graduation/Degree are eligible and entitled to obtain the MTET Certificate and the reason stated “In-service Below 45% in Degree are not qualified” stand null and void,” he stated.

He said the association has received multiple complaints from 2021 MTET passed candidates for upper primary category that their names were listed in the list of unqualified candidates who are not entitled to obtain the MTET certificate and reason being stated – “in-service but below 45% in Degree” displayed in the Notice Board of the respective DIETs.
