Shillong, Jan 6: Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma, on Friday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its ‘dirty intent’ and asked the people of the state to give them a befitting reply in the forthcoming Assembly polls in the state.
He was reacting to the claims made by the BJP leadership that no government will be formed without the BJP in 2023.
“What are they trying to say? Are they trying to buy the MLAs? Are they trying to engage in corruption? This is a reflection of their dirty intent, their dirty mind. I think the people of the state should give them a befitting reply,” Sangma told reporters.
He said it was the wisdom of the people of the state that there was no BJP in 2010 and 2013. “They have tried to supersede even before the mandate, the very basic tenets of democracy. It is quite offensive to the electorate itself and I would like to condemn this,” Sangma added.
Last year, BJP state president Ernest Mawrie had claimed that the message on the ground is clear that no government will be formed without the BJP in 2023.
He was referring to the claims and counter claims by various political parties about obtaining a majority in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state and said these political parties were building castles in the air.
